COMPANY HISTORY

Second Nature Recycling, Inc. and Dankelmann & Associates, Inc., began as Resource Management Consultants in 1989.

Resource Management Consultants became Dankelmann & Associates, Inc. when Dankelmann & Associates was incorporated in 1993.  The primary business focus was in providing Regulatory Compliance Consulting to both private industry and municipal government.  A component of today’s business model mainly for the private industry sector.

Faced with the closure of all municipal landfills in New York State in 1993, the Towns of Gardiner and Plattekill, in Ulster County New York, approached Dankelmann & Associates with a business concept of privatizing the operations of their soon to be built transfer stations.  This business model soon grew to include the Towns of Shawangunk, Esopus and New Paltz.

As the transfer station management business grew throughout the 1990’s another opportunity began to formulate, the collection of residential solid waste and recyclables.  So Second Nature Recycling was formed as a separate division of Dankelmann & Associates to provide that service.  As this business segment began to grow and Second Nature was incorporated as a separate stand-alone corporation in 1998.

The business model for Dankelmann & Associates began to change around 2000 – 2001.   Second Nature Recycling began to expand their residential solid waste collection and started providing roll off container services.  These services grew rapidly.  While Second Nature was busy collecting solid waste Dankelmann & Associates began processing it.  At the Plattekill Transfer Station Dankelmann & Associates began a wood waste recycling operation that grinds clean wood wastes and brush into natural landscape mulch.  Along with that a baling operation for recovered materials from the solid waste stream was implemented.  Local businesses soon began using the commercial recycling services of both companies.

In 2005 Second Nature sold the residential collection portion of the business to focus on the roll off container business and the steadily growing recycling programs.  As with any business change is necessary to keep on top of new opportunities.

Both companies are confident with their future and the direction they are headed.  New opportunities for growth and enhancement of existing services are constantly arising and being incorporated into our business model.  There are new programs are being formulated today for implementation soon.

As our company motto say’s, “Managing Today’s Resources for Tomorrow!”, is something that we not only live for each day, it is our compass for the future!
